On this episode of Changing Aging in the Granite State, we take a look at Social Security, at a practical level -- what it is and how it can benefit you. |

Welcome to Changing Aging in the Granite State, I'm Allison McNair. More than a quarter of a million people in NH receive Social Security benefits. As baby boomers age, it's estimated that number will double in the next twenty years. What do you know about Social Security? If you're like many people, not enough. Not knowing the basics of the program makes it difficult to understand how you can benefit from it. Our goal today is to dispel some of the myths of Social Security and build a foundation of understanding. Joining me are David Certner, Legislative Counsel and Legislative Policy Director for Government Affairs at AARP. Faye Doria is a financial planner from Dover, NH. Welcome. Helping out is our audience, some of whom will ask questions of David and Faye. Before we get in to the nuts and bolts of the program, we delighted that a special guest is going to give us a brief overview of Social Security. Take it away Willem! |

We're going to take a moment to head to the streets, where NHPTV's Heather Ross asked people for their thoughts on Social Security. |

So many of the questions and answers today are just the tip of the iceberg. It's clear that all of us need to be more proactive in learning about our options, before making decisions. And there's more to explore online at NHPTV.ORG/Aging. I'm Allison McNair. I'd like to thank our guests, David Certner and Faye Doria, and our studio audience for being here with us. And of course Willem Lange for giving us an up close and personal look at social security 101. |
